Hi,
Received this in an email from David Camerons office, I SO hope I'm wrong but got a horrid gut feeling they are going to try and get Scotland and Ireland to follow England and put the age for Cervical Screening UP to 25!!!!
The National Screening Committee has taken the decision to maintain the lower age limit at 25, and review the decision again when more robust research is available. The National Cancer Director, Professor Mike Richards said on BBC One’s Politics Show “we based the starting age of the very best scientific evidence and both our expert advisors in England and indeed the international association for research on cancer, they advise a starting age of 25.” Macmillan Cancer Research also support retaining the lower limit at 25, until clinical evidence proves otherwise.
It is important that we make our decisions about optimal screening age on all the clinical data that is available. Until clinical evidence demonstrates a necessity to begin screening at 20, or a more accurate method of distinguishing cancer from other abnormal cells is developed, we believe that resources would be better channelled in encouraging all young women to attend the routine cervical cancer screening that is offered. We are therefore supportive of the ongoing review into the evidence, and would approve of any reduction in the limit should the clinical evidence suggest it would be beneficial.

Hi Lorraine,
this is horrible news as a lot of younger ladies lost their life of cc.
I don't know why they can't understand how important is saving lives of other young ladies. It is very sad for me but i hope our fight won't end at this point.
Only we know through what we and our families are going when we are diagnosed with cc. I know how my mum is worried about me as i had only precancerous changes.
